TFI Friday (no, not the Chris Evans show)! :D

I spent a good hour of so playing Guild Wars with [livejournal.com profile] schnee, which was quite fun. I need to play it more often. :)
After the hour or so I started experiencing some major lag which ended up with my disconnection from the game and inhibility to reconnect successfully for the rest of the evening.

I took the oppourtunity to install and play Half Life 2 for a little while. It's a nice surprise to see games automatically set the graphics to high everything and run uber smoothly at those settings. ^.^

I'll give it to Valve, they really know how to set the scene. Source is beautiful and I'm sure will end up being a mod-makers fave for a long time to come, just as the original Half-Life did. :)

Anyway, more later!

P.S. I should have an update on Boswell after this weekend! :D

HL2 is a damn good game, and the Source engine is the prettiest thing I've ever seen in a videogame. But I still think the best application for it is Gary's Mod, and I'm not going to stop saying so until you try it out :>

One thing that annoys me about developers is that there's a bunch of developers going for Unreal Engine 3 and the Doom 3 engines, respectively. Those are engines that require certain resources to even run at decent framerates.

Source is good for that it really caters to the low-end gaming PC crowd, as well as gamers who have the "beefy rigs" (We're talking 3.0GHZ, 2GB RAM, that GeForce 7800 card, etc). The scalbility of Source is awesome. Other engines run like crap on low-end, or don't run at all.

Um. Wasn't this also the thinking behind the original Half-Life's engine?

Valve's missions statement was "We believe that our games should be open to everyone, even if they don't have costly 3D-accelerated graphics cards. Of course, if you do, then things will look mind-bogglingly cool."

It was true then, it's true now :P Although I don't think I'd try running HL2 on onboard graphics unless they were damn impressive onboard graphics.

Gamez!
