Something more positive: Sunday Night Mosh
I guess it's about time I wrote about this seeing as I spent an age going on about it before FC.
So Sunday night (22nd Jan)
twitchwolf and I headed to the San Carlos/San Juan room at the back of the hotel at around 8pm, just after another panel had finished, to get ourselves ready for the upcoming event. Although we still had an hour and 30 minutes until it started we wanted to get things ready, and it's a good thing we did.
neonbunny and his sidekick (Sorry, can't remember his name) was there already and were moving things around for us. When the mixing desk was moved to the front of the stage and the laptop was set up we found that the laptop was causing a ground feedback issue. Thankfully this was resolved by using a ground loop between the laptop and the mixer. At about 9:20pm we realised that the hotel wasn't going to come and move the chairs so we quickly set about doing that ourselves.
So we kicked off at around 9:30pm. I really can't remember everything that I played so please forgive me for only mentioning a few songs. I took some requests from people including
coongt who loaned me some CDs to play from.
About 10 minutes into my set a few of the gamers who were outside came an complained about the volume of the music, which I took pride in. I know it's slightly smug of me to feel that, but I knew it would happen. We told them that this had been booked and that it really wasn't our problem. We did however switch which set of doors were open when one of them said that she was epileptic and that the flashing lights would set her off.
mypetrhino (the Social Track lead) came and told us later that the gamers had been moved on just to be safe.
About 20 minutes in I realised that the set list I had ready was not working as well as I had hoped so I threw that away, the more fringe stuff I was playing wasn't working and so I moved to general heavy metal. It was awesome to see a small mosh-pit of around five or six furs form in front of me at times(when I played "Sugar" by SOAD), as well as people singing along with songs (like when I played "Of Wolf and Man" by Metallica and "Hanger 18" by Megadeth). I also managed to get "Rust In Peace... Polaris" (Megadeth) played when
tekfox came in, just has he had requested.
After an hour and fifthteen minutes on I handed over to
twitchwolf and then got down onto the dancefloor and started moshing myself. We managed to get to end a little later too due to the FNL overrunning. I got back onto stage after Twitch finished and played a couple of Goldfinger tracks (Superman and 99 Red Balloons) to finish off.
Overall despite the issues we had it really did rock hard. We're both looking forward to doing it again at FC next year. The highlight was definately all the fursuiters who came along too. :D
Thanks to everyone who came.
