Holy Shit, Planes!

I finally sat down and played the demo of Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. and I have to admit that I'm impressed.

Until now I've only ever been a fan of one franchise of arcade-style flight sims, and that's been the Ace Combat series, but Ace Combat 6 was majorly lacking in the story department.

H.A.W.X. is just like Ace Combat 6 should have been, but with some extra features. It's set in the Advanced Warfighter universe and as such has a lot of nifty things that one would expect, like on-screen "tunnels" to help you dodge missiles, navigate to hidden targets, or intercept enemy aircraft. Another feature is "Assistance OFF", which changes the perspective to long range third person and removes most of the HUD, but gives you greater control of your aircraft for dog-fights, with the added danger of stalling more frequently.

Overall I am V. Impressed with this. Looking forward to playing the full game. :D

I've never been into flight sim/combat games myself. I just can't get into them. I prefer having my feet firmly stuck on the ground and having a gun stuck in my hands.

Glad you agree with my general analysis. It does look like an improvement on Ace Combat 6. Let's hope Project Aces take a few hints from the game and we get a good Ace Combat 7. I'm looking forward to playing the full version of HAWX - the list of planes is mouth-watering.

I didn't know it was set in the advanced warfighter universe - the only other Tom Clancy's games I've played are Rainbow Six Vegas 1&2

I was very curious about that game. Think its good eeh? I haven't played many combat flight-sims, played actual flight sims however.
