(no subject)

I just saw someone in #NorthernFurs (FurNet) get kicked because Samia (an Op) didn't like that person.

That, IMO, is abuse of power. Samia does not deserve ops.

Abuse of power in a furry IRC channel?

Never! :O

[identity profile] gravecat.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
On a less sarcastic note, this is why I generally don't frequent furry IRC channels or forums, because many furs I could name, especially in the UK (not going to point fingers, but they know who they are) are almost embarrassingly immature, childish, and prone to power-abuse or temper tantrums.

And as with many things furry, power systems generally come down to "I'm an admin, you're my friend, so you get to be an admin too". With the uncomfortably large percentage of immature furs around, it's inevitable that some of them would end up with positions of power.

Go go furries.

The two universal constants: Entropy, and stupidity.

That goes double for furs. ;3

[identity profile] schnee.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
And triple for IRC - at least once channel populations get into the double-digit figures. :P

[identity profile] ember-komodog.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm only ever on there from time to time, I spend most of my IRC time on #fursuit (anthrochat) :P

I find this endlessly amusing:

most furs are liberals, and are all about "freedom" and "democracy".

Yet within their own little microcosms they basically run a dictatorship.

Everything would be so much easier if everyone would just obey

[identity profile] gravecat.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Would you kindly find a crowbar or something?

[identity profile] schnee.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
You do realise there's more than one furry, right? ;)

[identity profile] avon-deer.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
*yawns* Its why I stick to IMs.

[identity profile] salith.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
And hence you see why I drift further and further away from the 'fandom' :(

[identity profile] rustyfox.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you're confusing a bunch of people with similar ideas and feelings to yourself, with a bunch of fuckwits who think being in IRC god is the pinnacle of worldly success.

I've always hated IRC long before I got 'involved' with furry. IRC is always the same, regardless of race, fandom, network or channel. Tt just somehow seems to breed repugnant human beings.

[identity profile] rustyfox.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
And how I wonder do you edit replies? I must be the only LJ'er not to have figured this out yet, and my typing is atrocious tonight!

[identity profile] cheetahkid.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you a paid LJ, only those who can edit their own replies

[identity profile] rustyfox.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that would explain it, no I'm not.

And nor will I be - pay to edit my own replies?! I think not.

[identity profile] cheetahkid.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Nor me! ;)

[identity profile] salith.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well IRC is IRC :)
But I meant as a more general thing. We've just been burnt by too many furs as 'friends of convenience'. We help furs out as we can when they have problems and stuff, and then when their problem is solved (or the situation changes slightly), we're just forgotten about and thrown to the wind :(
Only happens with the furry friends who we actually see, not the non-furry friends who we see :/

[identity profile] spunkyrakune.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
THERES A FURRY IRC?!

[identity profile] gravecat.livejournal.com 2008-03-17 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Best reply ever.

[identity profile] dingotush.livejournal.com 2008-03-17 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
I just don't do IRC. This makes the world a better place. However, I have to agree that Samia is a Grade A ________, and doesn't deserve op or admin status anywhere.

[identity profile] murries.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Hate to say this, buut..

Told everyone so.

Same shit, new wrapper.
