English and how you can murder it.
Nov. 23rd, 2008 03:42 amThe following sentence is from a comment to a video on YouTube:
"u no im sorry if i send u a friends invite i didnt no that u don't like youtube pepol so im going to sa this ones your videos are cool and the custome is graet!............
so.....do u whant to be acquaintance? if u do send me a message and to show u my complumens wouch this."
Apparently this is from a 15 year old American. I wouldn't even expect this sort of bad typing from someone 8 years younger.
I suspect that this is how it should be written:
"You know, I'm sorry for sending you an invite to my friends list. I didn't know that you dislike people on YouTube. I'd just like to say that your videos are cool and your costume is great!
So, would you like to be acquaintances? If you would, please send me a message. I have added this video to my favourites as a compliment."
This person could obviously be dyslexic, but I'm more tempted to believe that the person is one of two potentials. If we forego dyslexia for the moment, either this person has had a sub-standard education (which in all fairness I highly doubt) or it's "cool" to type like they've learned English from listening to others.
I'm just baffled. To quote Ellen Ripley "Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?"
