Drink Knowledge - Tequila Slammer
Oct. 27th, 2008 01:26 amI asked for my first Tequila Slammer (from a bar) on Saturday and at first the barmaid got it wrong. In the end I had to tell her what it was.
But do YOU know what a Tequila Slammer is? Most think they do, but don't.
A Tequila Slammer is not a shot of Tequila with salt and a slice of lemon; that's a Tequila Curda AKA training-wheels.
A Tequila Slammer is actually as follows:
Served in a rocks glass:
- One part Tequila (usually one or two shots).
- One part lemonade/ginger ale/7-Up/Sprite/Mountain Dew. Champagne can be used in the place of these, but in that case the drink is a "Slammer Royale" or "Golden Slammer"
The carbonated drink must be poured into the Tequila so that it does not fizz too much, the carbonate must remain dissolved in the drink.
Once the drink is prepared, cover the glass with your hand (or a piece of card/paper) and then slam the glass down on a hard surface. This is where it gets the name "Slammer".
