Ubuntu is the sex.

Even before installing it, the Live portion of the install CD identified and picked up my Intel Wireless (part of that Centrino gubbins).

By far Ubuntu is the best Linux distro I have seen in a long while, especially for newbies. It's come on leaps and bounds since it's first release.

If you are interested in playing about with Linux, go get Ubuntu. :D

I hope you had more purpose than JUST making this post. (Though if that was the case, that's some major geek points right there.) ;)

{gryn} I'm not going to reload the main Gentoo box, but I've got a spare system laying around I'll try it on. Well, after Halloween, most likely :)

If only I had a new PSU for my damn Linux* machine!

*Linux in the sense it's gonna be USED for that... once I get a PSU and actually install Ubuntu.

I'd agree, but GNOME is not my thing. Go get yourself some hot KDE lovin' in the form of Kubuntu (or just apt-get the bits you need).

I've been using Ubuntu 6.06 LTS for my primary desktop/laptop OS since the day it came out. It's been FLAWLESS. And there is a LOT I have done to customize it's behavior, look, and feel, and NONE of that required hacking, or deviating from the package management system.

Under the edubuntu link they show a screenshot of the periodic table. Ah, but where is the intelligent-calcium?!

I'm running Xubuntu here.

I had to use NDISwrapper here, then install wifi radar. I tried using networkmanager daemon however it did seem to comply very well, I had to manually sort out my IP since the router replied on silly ports for http requests, of course setting resolv.conf was okay but on each dchp lease it reset itself, and when I manually edited ip entries the daemon screwed itself over when I shut down and restarted.

Nb
You'll also need to get CDFS compiled and installed if you want to play any audio CD's. :)
