Since I DJ'd at CF last weekend I've finally decided to get myself some CD decks and a mixer to practice and possibly work with, however I'm pretty much a n00b when it comes to hardware.

I'm currently thinking about getting a Gemini CDM-3600, mainly because it's cheap and it's all in one. I've also seen some promising video reviews on YouTube.

However I'm also thinking about shopping around, so question number one is: Are there any brands I should stay away from?

I was also thinking about getting two seperate CD decks and a Behringer mixer (I've used a Behringer mixer before and I do like them), probably a DJX 700.

Any comments and advice would be greatly appreciated, so would kit reccomendations. Please bear in mind that I don't really want to spend more than £600 (although I'd love a pair of Pioneer CDJ 800 MK2's c.c).

Wow.

Just wow.

I had a slot of one and a half hours to inject some metal into the con. Not only was it my best set to date but a lot more folks turned up than had done at FC this year. I was seriously buzzing with excitement; every song got everyone dancing hard.

Seeing people dancing and soaking in sweat is... awe inspiring, because you know that they're loving the music so much.

I'll do a proper post later, right now I'm gonna sleep. XD

Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] twitchdawoof, I'm gonna post a song here that's really a guilty pleasure for me.

Don't You Forget About Me, by Simple Minds

What can I say? This song strikes a chord with me.

Unfortunately it's not because of the song itself but because it reminds me of "The Breakfast Club" written by the amazing John Hughes; the only person I can think of who has written more than one awesome film that's about nothing in particular, just about a day in the life of a few individuals.

Other films of this nature by John Hughes include:
Sixteen Candles
Pretty in Pink
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Some Kind of Wonderful

Other "nothing" films also include:
Ghost World
Juno

Oh man, where does time go?

Work
Generally things are going OK. Working OOH is good. As expected I'm really not in the mood to do anything whilst I'm working, which is only understandable considering the 12hr shifts. The weeks off (one out of every three) are a $DEITY send; I've really been able to crack on with stuff during them.

For example: [livejournal.com profile] r4nger5 and I have been able to get the pilot episode of R4nger5 TV done and online. We haven't got as much feedback as we had expected but I suppose that's not surprising consider that it is a pilot.

Fursuiting

$DEITY'S-SON, I really want to go fursuiting. The last two times I've been fursuiting this year have been the LF meet at the end of March and when [livejournal.com profile] frost_t_wolf and [livejournal.com profile] shivonhusky came over. Fursuiting nao plz. XD
Ah well, CF is just around the corner. :)

Music

Skindred has been filling my ears with awesome recently. <3

London

I am so missing the LondonFurs furmeets. I really wish I could go, but every single LF meet falls on a day when I am working, and with ConFuzzled and EuroFurence taking up my holiday allowance for the rest of the year I can see it being next year when I get to attend an LF meet.

Does anyone know if there's anything planned to happen with furs in London that falls on the weekend before the tri-weekly meets?

PnP RPGs

I really want to get into running a weekly Pen and Paper RPG once I move into my own place in Leeds, but I'm actually having trouble finding a group to join. I probably just need to find a group of people I can game comfortably with and just invite them over. Or maybe something can be done via Skype... *ponderponder*

Damon

OMG Damon's moving soon! *dance* ^_^

And that's it for this post really.

RatRace by Skindred.

One can listen to it online on their myspace page (ick).

I need to get the album this is on (Roots Rock Riot). <3

I love the sound of Steelpans; there's just something so haunting about it, something odd about such a wonderful sound coming from the bottom of a steel drum.

This is probably why I like "Sunchyme" by Dario G so much. :)

I guess I should plug this sooner or later.

I've applied for, and got, a slot on BritFur.fm. I should be starting this Friday evening, probably from 9pm until midnight (need to run this by the admins first), bringing listeners an eclectic stream of Electronic Music from the late 80's up until present day and covering as many genres as possible: Ambient, Breakbeat, EBM, Hardcore, House, Industrial, Jungle, Techno, Trance, and all the sub-genres within.

The show is Lupus Ex Machina.

I'll obviously post more details here as we get closer to the start date, but in the mean time you have been forewarned. ;)

OK folks, I'd like you to help me expand my Electronic Music collection.

Please leave a comment with the name of an EM artist that I should listen to; it could be anything: Ambient, Club, Dance, Drum n Bass, Hardcore, Industrial, Jungle, Rave, Techno, Acid House, House, EBM, etc, etc.

One stipulation is that, unless you think that the artist will really impress me, the artist must have been active from the very late 80's (88+) onwards.

And now it's over to you! :)

Tonight

Tonight I shall mostly be listening to 90's Electronica and Electronic Dance Music, starting with the album 21st Century Jesus by Messiah, possibly followed by The Prodigy's earlier stuff and then by The KLF or Utah Saints.

If I have to hear the Savage Garden song "Affirmation" one more smegging time, I'm going to go something something... >.<

It's... gah it's a huge piece of year-old faeces on rhye. I can't even explain how much it sucks in words; it sucks beyond language.

I mean jeez, the Vengaboys were less annoying. I'd even settle for Las Ketchup or the Macarena! c.c

Just my personal opinion, of course.

Thankfully I have Dehtklok on my phone. <3

Firstly I'd like to thank everyone who commented yesterday; both Damon and I appreciate the well-wishes. :)

I'm not really a fan of folk music, but anti-folk seems like something I could really get into, especially after seeing Juno and hearing Kimya Dawon's music (Thanks V!).

It's incredibly experimental and eclectic folk music with interesting lyrics, vocal style, mostly recorded lo-fi. Methinks I need to delve into the little genre more. :)

Yep, it's that time again. I'm DJing at FC and I'll playing a load of metal and punk.

Currently the music I will be taking consists of the following albums:

Ultraspank - Progress
Wolfmother - Wolfmother

Of course I won't be playing everything there, it's just what I'm taking to use and take requests from. Speaking of taking requests, the main reason I have so many Opeth albums there is that most of the requests I got last year were for Opeth songs. ;)

My question to those of you who are going, what would you like to hear that isn't in that list? All will be considered. :)

So, comment plz. :>

Oh, I forgot to mention earlier; it has been confirmed that I shall be doing some Metal/Punk DJing at FC08. :D

Of course this makes me really fucking happy. :D

As far as I currently know, I'll be DJing on Friday night (technically Saturday morning) from 00:15 to 02:00. This could change depending on how things pan out but despite the late running I'm more than happy to be doing this. :D

And another really awesome thing is that [livejournal.com profile] godzuki will be DJing just before me. :D

Oh, and in case you're wondering where we will be DJing, it'll be the mezzanine area near Main Stage (top of the stairs).

So, if you're going to FC and want any requests now is a Good TimeTM to let me know and I'll try to work them in. Comments are fine. :)

Call me a heathen, but Queen are the best thing musically to have come out of Britain. Far far better than The Beatles.

I mean, come on; Bohemian Rhapsody is the best song ever, it's a scientific fact.

And anyone who says that they "just did rock music" needs to listen to more of their stuff.

Lastly, Breakthru gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

This is a prime example of why Dethklok are so awesome.

I was speaking to a friend last night who hadn't heard of them or Metalocalypse, so without telling him anything about it I played "Hatredcopter" and "Murmaider" to him. He admited that, although it wasn't his kind of music, he found it interesting.

However, when I told him that Dethklok are a virtual band his reaction was priceless: "...you're shitting me. o.o"

Muwhahaha!

Now I need to introduce more people to Dethklok. :D
graafen: (Default)
Jeez, I LOVE Dethklok.

Lyrics of Murmaider )
graafen: (Default)
So after listening to The Dethalbum for the last couple of weeks, I can safely say that this is the best album to have been spawned by a TV series ever. It's done so well that whilst listening to it, I have sometimes forgotten that Dethklok are just characters from a cartoon.

It doesn't skimp off with anything. The songs which appear on the show are full version here, and the rest of the tracks are just as awesome.

The scary thing is that if you had never seen Metalocalypse you would probably think that this album was by a real Death Metal band, and that wins 100%.

And, even more awesomely, the Deththeme at the end of the CD is the version from season 2; which sounds almost exactly the same but has added win.

This album is Winderful.
