Look at Lord Of The Rings, it's a trilogy and there is no real end until the third book.
Personally I don't care that Half-Life and Half-Life 2 had incomplete endings, it's too good for me to care. This way I know there will be sequels and that such an awesome game will live on! :D
That and the fact that since Halflife and Halflife 2 are told entirely (ENTIRELY, mark you, no cut-scenes or anything) from Gordon's point of view, there can't really /be/ an ending until he hangs up the hazard suit and pops his clogs :P
this is true, dont get me wrong, the 'cliffhanger' (although can you call it a cliffhanger when its expected?) at the end is very intriguing.. although they might be hard pressed to beat HL2, was a pretty damned near spankilngly perfect game fi you ask me.. well, other than a few ai glitches ^^
