One thing I always find funny about World Cup time is that almost as soon as England get knocked out then all the St. George's flags go down.
This year was no exception. Within an hour of England losing to Portugal there was not a flag flying in my street, when there had been tons before. Seriously.
Since when did the St. George's flag stop being a symbol of England as a country and start being a symbol for the English football team. Methinks that it was probably around the same time that we Brits started taking the game too seriously.
Yep, we aren't 'alf a competetive bunch.

Date: 2006-07-04 04:46 pm (UTC)I certainly like seeing the Union Flag flying from the flagpole of the church I can see outside my house, but often its just a bare pole, just now and then will be the St George or Union Flag if its St George's day etc.
